Meta launches an open-weight AI model that runs on Macs

Meta has launched Muse Spark Open, its most advanced open-weight AI model in the U.S., optimized to run locally on Apple silicon Macs, especially Mac Studio with M5 Ultra chips. Featuring 816 billion parameters and a 1 million token context window, the multimodal model excels in complex coding tasks and agentic workflows. It powers the Muse Code AI coding terminal and supports activities like fixing bugs in a Mastodon client and editing video with DaVinci Resolve. Requiring at least 1TB of RAM to run locally, Muse Spark Open offers advantages over closed models, including cost-efficiency, transparency, and flexibility. Meta is providing access via various API platforms, marking a collaboration with Apple to enhance AI usability on Macs.
